For the 2010 season, we will again offer an intramural program for all male participants in grades 5-8.  All registered players will play in the intramural league as it is the core of our program.  Each week of the season there will be one intramural game and one skills (practice) session.

The intramural games will be played within a one hour time slot and be will officiated by league-sanctioned referees.  As always, the coaches will be members of the SLC staff. Two sessions of lacrosse per week will offer plenty of lacrosse.  It is our plan to accommodate those players who are involved in other pursuits and want to stay involved in lacrosse.  Travel time is drastically reduced.

For those players willing to make a full, serious commitment to lacrosse, there will be a travel program available to supplement the intramural program.  The travel program will have stringent requirements on commitment levels.  Attendance at all practices and games will be required, including intramural games and the skills sessions.  As a result, participants in travel lacrosse will have at least 4 days of lacrosse per week.

Costs:  Grades 5 & 6 - $125 Intramural only / $225 IM and travel
            Grades 7 & 8 - $135 Intramural only / $225 IM and travel

There will be no changes to the girls program or to the boys program in 1st through 4th grades.

FAQ's

My son is playing soccer and baseball. Can he still play travel?
The intramural program is designed to accommodate those boys that are engaged in other sports during the spring.  To be involved in another sport and also elect to play travel lacrosse is an awesome commitment and one that is surely going to be compromised.  Attendance requirements are stringent for travel lacrosse.   We would recommend that boys play intramurals so that they can stay involved in their other pursuits.

What is the Intramural program?

It is an intra-town league.  We will select equal intramural teams from within the 5/6th and 7/8th grade groupings.  Practice will be held on Saturdays and intramural games will be played one evening during the week.  Unfortunately, exact timeslots and locations are not available at this time.

Does my son have to try-out for the travel program?
No.  Travel is based on commitment level, not ability.  Travel teams in grades 5 and 6 will be split into two equal teams.  In the 7th grade, players will be split into platoons which will be mixed and matched during the season.  This will allow all players the opportunity to play together over the course of the season instead of being segregated on two different teams.  The 8th grade, as in seasons past, will be split into an A and B team.

What happens if my son doesn't maintain the commitment to travel lacrosse?
He will be removed from the travel program but will still be able to participate in the IM program.

Can a travel participant skip the intramurals and still play in a travel game?
Absolutely not!   The intramural program is the core of our program.  We believe that we can create a highly competitive program through an in-house league.  The quality of play is expected to be very high.

How does this impact the current girls' program?

There is no change to the structure of the girls' program.
